Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, were recently involved in a run in with the law – The couple

The couple were arrested and arraigned for holding a party with more than 20 people in attendance despite the government’s directive on social distancing and isolation

Speaking with NAN, some senior advocates of Nigeria (SAN) have said that the actress and her man are ex-convicts

The past week has been filled with the report of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello’s arrest and arraignment.

The couple had been arrested after holding a birthday house party at their residence in Amen estate and the occasion had over 20 people in attendance like the law requires.

They were arraigned and the couple pleaded guilty. They were also fined the sum of N100,000 each and sentenced to 14 days of community service.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, some lawyers said that the couple are ex-convicts given the situation surrounding the issue.

According to reports from Vanguard, Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, said:

“There is no doubt that they are ex-convicts. This is because before the judge passed the sentence, they would have pleaded guilty, and trial would have taken place before judgment. So, as far as the law is concerned presently, they are ex-convicts”.

Mr Ahmed Raji, SAN, also said the same thing in other words. He said:
“Akindele and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello, can be referred to as ex-convicts having pleaded guilty and were sentenced for violating restrictions order in Lagos.

“Technically speaking, anybody who has gone through a trial and is convicted can be referred to as an ex-convict.”

Hmm…Interesting.
